Estimate your energy consumption and monthly utility costs
Your electricity bill is calculated based on the total Kilowatt-hours (kWh) consumed. One kWh is effectively using 1000 watts of power for one hour.
One unit of electricity is equal to 1 kilowatt-hour (kWh). If you use a 1000-watt appliance for one hour, you have consumed exactly one unit.
Check your most recent electricity bill. It usually lists the rate per kWh (e.g., ₹7.00 or $0.15). Some regions have "slabs" where the rate increases as you use more energy.
High-wattage appliances include Air Conditioners (1500W-3000W), Water Heaters/Geysers (2000W), and Electric Irons (1000W). Lighting and fans usually consume very little (10W-70W).
